Chicago Bulls 4-0 over the Heat – is that prediction?
No, this is the Bulls’ current record over the Heat after sweeping them 3-0 in the regular season, and then taking a commanding 1-0 start in the Eastern Conference Finals playoff series. Chicago shut down Miami’s greatest two and then rose to the occasion their offense in the second half, cruising to a 103-82 win. The Heat had no useful answers to the miserable defense and were clearly rattled by the end of the competition vs an energetic Chicago Bulls squad.

Last summer, these two teams determined to restore their rosters, yet they had quite different plans for doing so. The Miami Heat attracted three celebrities in LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh, spending nearly all of their salary cap to build this core. Even with the brilliance of these three, there wasn’t a lot of room for much else, and the Big Three from Miami would have to put the squad on their backs night after night if they wanted to win. They concluded the year in second place in the East, 58-24.
The Bulls, on the flip side, had Derrick Rose but could not convince any of the foremost celebrities in the league to join them. So they went deep instead, building a youthful squad with tons of energy and raw talent. Lead by first-year coach Tom Thibodeau, the squad focused on suffocating other teams’ offenses, whilst scraping together some points of their own. The squad concluded with the MVP, Coach of the Year, greatest record in the league, and home-court advantage throughout the playoffs.
So it was almost certainly inevitable that these two would meet in the playoffs sometime. James had publicly and notoriously made his move to Miami in order to win “not six, not seven” NBA championships, whilst Rose only spent the summer balling out and practicing. Even with being the favorites in close to every meeting, the Heat could never rather overcome the Chicago Bulls throughout the regular season.
Last night’s Game One of the Conference Finals was truly only a continuation. The two teams held the competition near for the 1st half, but then the Chicago Bulls tightened the defense and went on a 10-0 run in the third quarter. James and Wade were never heard from in the second half, as Bosh headed all Miami participants in points with 30. The Heat outshot the Chicago Bulls, making 47% of their field goals compared to 43.7%.
However the Chicago Bulls rebounded major. They had 45 total and 19 offensive boards compared to the Heat’s 33 and six. Chicago scored more than Miami 31-8 on second-chance points. By the time Wade walked off the court late in the competition, he appeared tired and demoralized, having been defeated down by the Chicago Bulls defense every minute he was in the competition. James appeared little different, sitting on the sideline and looking shell-shocked as the Chicago Bulls sideline outplayed the Heat starters.
So are the hated Heat no more the favorites? I don’t know. But my money is on the Chicago Bulls to win this series. With their defensive approach, how they bring the competition to the Heat’s Huge 3, Miami’s lack of any scoring other than the celebrities, and the talent arriving off of Chicago’s sideline, it seems like an 11-on-3 competition out there. The Heat even attempted sneaking a 6th competitor on the court for a second, all to no avail.
The Chicago Bulls are peerless when their defense is tight and their offense is flowing. I believe they are able to come up with that blend three more times in the next six matches. And if they keep closing down two of Miami’s Huge 3 consistently, the Heat will have no answers, not enough victories, and no trip to the NBA Finals in their 1st year together.
